Arise to Freedom

66 yrs | Village: Mau

Peruth lost her husband to HIV-AIDS and almost lost her life to the disease as well. She had been left on her death bed and remembers despairing and mocking conversations said about her while she was in a coma. However, she placed her faith in Jesus and believed for her healing. She gained strength until those who had come for her funeral returned home. Her church began praying. When she returned to the doctor for a checkup, they found that the HIV was gone. With the loss of her son to cancer, she is the caretaker of her grandson. She continues to maintain faith in the God who healed her and dreams of having a chicken farm one day as a way to make a living.

64 yrs | Village: Manganjo

Naome is a single woman who has suffered financial setbacks due to health complications related to having a single kidney. She has now found a community that has shared the gospel with her and is speaking life into her. Naome dreams of sustaining herself and others one day.

39 yrs | Village: Kagoma

Sarah is divorced and has for a long time suffered from chronic pain and weak bones. She currently sustains herself by begging on the streets and hopes to one day have a thriving business. She is blessed to be a part of the community that is sharing the gospel with her and leading her to Jesus.

44 yrs | Village: Kagoma

Sarah is a single mom of four girls. Her second oldest is crippled and disabled, not able to speak, due to premature birth. Sarah has had trouble finding work due to her inability to leave her crippled daughter alone and she cannot afford a proper caretaker for her while she is away.

45 yrs | Village: Kagoma

Josephine is a single mom of five children. She was unaware that the father of her children has another family, and she is now single. She runs a small samosa-selling business but struggles to provide food, clothing, bedding, and schooling for her children and they often go hungry.

43 yrs | Village: Kabaganda

Yudaya is a single mom to four children. Her preacher husband left her when she confronted him about an affair. Yudaya has suffered from illness since her husband left. Yudaya’s oldest daughter quit school to take care of her ill mother and the other children but struggled to provide and was on the verge of selling her body for money when the Arise Uganda Women’s Ministry team met her and shared the gospel and the love of Jesus with her. The oldest daughter is now back in school. The family remains in need of provisions and prayers.

42 yrs | Village: Kagoma

Rose is a widow who lost her husband to HIV after he contracted the disease through adultery. Rose has been washing clothes to make a living but finances are tough. She currently rents a house but also owns a small plot of land and has dreams of building a home on the land to alleviate the rent requirement which would greatly help her financial situation.

45 yrs | Village: Katende

Joyce is a widow who was left little after her husband died since most was given to his first wife. She formerly worked as a teacher but has been unable to do this work due to needing to care for her crippled daughter, and her other children have been without education opportunities. She gardens and does housework to provide for her family, but finances are scarce. Her relatives have also been quite hostile. Joyce dreams of using her skills and abilities to create a new life for her and her children.

65 yrs | Village: Kagoma

Joyce is a widow of twenty years who lost her husband due to a ruptured stomach ulcer. Joyce has struggled with self-condemnation for giving her husband water which he had asked for and later being told this is what led to the ulcers being ruptured. She is the caretaker for one of her grandchildren who was abandoned by his parents. Finances have been scarce, especially as she has been recovering from a broken hand and unable to hawk clothes. The Arise Uganda Women’s Ministry team has been able to speak life over her and help her forgive herself and become free of the past guilt and shame.

53 yrs | Village: SSanga

Jessica and her five boys were abandoned. They live in a broken two-room house and do not have access to medical care and struggle to find food to live on. Jessica scavenges for coins to find the means to survive. Our team is ministering to Jessica and longs to have the support to give to her tangible needs.

40 yrs | Village: SSanga

liet lost her husband to HIV –AIDS and has three children. She struggles nutritionally due to finances and side effects of her HIV medications She currently rents but dreams of one day owning a house and a poultry farm to sustain her family. The Arise Ministry team is continuing to share the gospel with her.

76 yrs | Village: Bugaramwa

Elizabeth is a widow who has accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She miraculously survived a heavy rainstorm in which her grass-thatched hut nearly collapsed on her. She has been struggling with ulcers, knee arthritis, and nutritional deficiencies without means to obtain medical attention.

74 yrs | Village: Kagoma

Betty raised her six children in poverty after the death of her husband. Her son grew up and was married and she gave a portion of her land to the young couple to live on, however, the son then passed away as well. Her daughter-in-law then forced her from her land and took possession of it to sell it for profit. Betty is now homeless and struggles to find food to survive. She also has medical problems that are not adequately cared for. Betty is a powerful woman of God whose faith and prayers sustain her.

52 yrs | Village: Sanga

Josephine lost her husband in a terrible motorcycle versus truck vehicle accident. She was in shock after the accident. Her children dropped out of school and her oldest son attempted to care for the family. The family struggles to find adequate food and medications. Our team is ministering the hope of the gospel to her and looks forward to finding practical support through sponsorship for her.

41 yrs | Village: Sumba

Juliet lost her husband first through separation as he was involved in an affair and then ultimately to death in an accident. She struggles with health problems but does not share her medical concerns with her children out of desire to prevent them from worrying. She is very proud of her daughter who aspires to be a doctor. She works in the market struggling to make ends meet, but she puts her trust in God. She dreams of owning a piggery and poultry farm to fund rental houses that will provide her children with security. The Arise Ministry team continues to encourage her with the hope of Jesus.

56 yrs | Village: Buwambo

Rose lost her husband when she was 31 years old. Her daughter was 4 and her son was 1 year old at the time and they struggled to scrape by. She now lives with her grandchildren from her son and continues to struggle, lacking adequate food and medication. Rose trusts God completely in all hard conditions and will be so grateful for support through sponsorship.

60 yrs | Village: Sanga

nes lost her husband when she was young. She had 12 children but lost one child. Her children were financially unable to remain in school after the death of her husband. They were forced to sell most of their land to survive and she continues to struggle to provide food and education for her remaining children and grandchildren.

86 yrs | Village: Sanga

Getrude is an elderly widow who lives with her grandson whose father and mother abandoned him. Her neighbors share with her from their gardens and she receives some help with her chores but she struggles to find enough food.

43 yrs | Village: Sanga

Norah lost her husband to a car accident in which he was hit by a speeding truck. He passed away three hours after the accident. Norah has many children and she struggles to provide for them. She scrounges in neighboring gardens for survival but lacks adequate provision.

Monica was abandoned by her husband and was afterward on the verge of committing suicide. The Lord sent her encouragement through her daughter that gave her strength to hold on to life. The father of her son kidnapped the boy and attempted to abuse him for witchcraft purposes, but thankfully the boy escaped and the Arise Uganda team was blessed to minister to him and help him to get back in school. Monica has been overjoyed by the goodness of God in blessing her through the Arise Uganda team and is so thankful to the Lord.
